Calming the Mind & Nourishing the Body

Posted by Beni Cook

Let’s say you are having a pretty good routine during the weekday: eat healthy, train regularly with a coach and do other practices a few times each week. You work or study or doing both, take care of your loved ones, drink enough water, and focus on having quality sleeps, rests.

Not to mention dealing with the obstacles that life can throw in front of you just to challenge you, test your abilities and willingness. Then Friday night arrives and the weekend…

How do you spend these hours, days?

The weekend doesn’t mean it’s time to let go of caring about ourselves in a healthy way, consume highly processed meals and drinks, stress too much and rest too little.

It is a great time to practice quieting the mind with a morning meditation or focusing on your breathing for a couple of minutes.

Personally, I like to do the 4:6 breath work.

Starting your day with this few minute practice can calm and clarify your mind. And prepare you for a weekend of self care.

Nourish your body with delicious juices or smoothies, which can boost your immune system as much as increase your energy, mood & keep you light, healthy and in great balance.

When you eat out with family or friends, choose options from the menu that has nutrition value and can revitalize your system, make you feel good, satisfied.

Your body is where you live, so it’s better to take really good care of it. Treat it well and love it!

You breathe in for 4 and breathe out for 6 seconds. And do this for as many minutes as you want. No pressure.

You can do it lying down, sitting up or even standing supporting your back against a wall or while making your breakfast.

Starting your day with this few minute practice can calm and clarify your mind. And prepare you for a weekend of self care.

Along with breathing exercises, try to remember to do some movement practices as well.

If you trained hard throughout the week, choose a low intense activity like walking, cycling, swimming; or do some mobility drills to open up the hips, the shoulders.

This is also a fantastic time to play!

Explore new movement patterns, be active with your kids or friends or partner. Play in the playground or participate in team sports. If you are on your own dance, or try new hobbies like rock climbing, bouldering, hiking,…

Find challenge and joy in learning and moving in different ways.

Keep simple, healthy habits on for the weekend too.

Have a lovely, nurturing day!
