If you look at a baby or a child, their squatting is great! They can sit in that position comfortably for as long as they want to with perfect technique.
Are you able to squat all the way down to the ground with flat feet? And just rest there? Let’s Test It!
Wear comfortable clothing and it’s better to do this barefoot. Slowly lower yourself down from a standing position till you can rest comfortably in a squat, feet flat on the ground.
Notice the way you move!
Be aware of any restrictions, tightness, even pain that you feel in your body! How far down could you squat? Are you sitting in a comfortable resting position, or are you experiencing discomfort and pain?
If you cannot squat all the way down to the ground and stay there in peace for minutes, feel relaxed, and pain free – there is an indication that something is restricted in your body, in your movements in a daily basis. We are human beings. We are not meant to sit in a chair for 8+ hours every single day!
It’s so unnatural for our physique! This causes us to become rigid and restricted in our movements; completely disconnected to our own bodies to the point where we cannot perform any foundation movements, like squatting, running, standing correctly.
We have been created to move gracefully, silently; faster or simply be still.
If you noticed you have difficulties just doing this simple move, you might need to work on some mobility drills, re-alignment training and lots of practice to help your body ease up and do what it suppose to do which is to move freely and rest without pain!
At Beyond Best we are all about helping you to create healthier movement & lifestyle habits, to assist you in being able to move with ease, strength, increased mobility and be free of pain.
If you would like to improve your squats, better your mobility and become stronger, get in contact with one of our excellent trainers to guide you on this journey to your greater self.
Also watch this space. The new year will bring Mobility & Stretch Therapy group training sessions that will absolutely change the way you move in the most amazing way.
