Eating mindfully is the most important practice of our lives.
To savour each bite, like when we were kids and enjoyed the fresh, juicy peach straight from the tree; tried the freshly baked cookies from grandma’s kitchen or tasted the beautiful strawberries from the local market…
All this you can experience too, with some simple shifts while you are consuming your meals and drinks.
First of all, avoid any external distractions like watching a movie, being on your phone scrolling through Instagram. Sit down and be in the present moment.
Notice the colours on your plate, the steam if your meal is hot.
Notice the shapes you have in front of you.
When you finally start eating, make sure you focus only on one task at a time, the enjoyment of the particular taste, texture, temperature or smell.
Then chew your food well, liquefying the bite in your mouth before finally swallowing it.
While eating in a slower pace, it will allow you to feel satisfied earlier, then you’d usually be. This will assist you in better digestion and having a healthier weight.
So be mindful of the way you eat and drink, to have a more fulfilling and healthier life.
